History & Clav
The Celia Lobo Academy of Voice (CLAV) was founded by Deirdre Lobo to carry on the legacy of Celia Lobo, her mother and, India’s only Opera Diva. It was started as a preparatory program for students wanting to embark on a singing career.
“It all started at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines, when I was pursuing my Bachelor of Music Degree. It was not only a culture, but musical shock as well! You see, even though I grew up with music, I was not trained in: Music Theory, Sight Reading, Counterpoint, etc. like students in the west and in the Philippines are, before they get to University. It was then that I decided that I would some day start an organization on an international level, which would prepare students for college.” Deirdre Lobo, Artistic Director CLAV & OVIMA Global
Thus CLAV was born in 2015 teaching IN-PERSON classes to students ages 6 years and above. Students were taught in Groups of 5-10 per class. CLAV served the San Francisco Bay Area – serving students in Fremont, San Ramon, Dublin, Foster City, and Los Altos. The curriculum for the classes was structured and progressive. Students were also taught ONLINE.
With the onset of the Pandemic in March 2020, CLAV with its high-end training, performance, structured, and progressive curriculum, evolved into One Voice Institute of Music and Art (OVIMA) on Sept 2020, an ONLINE global, and full-scale complete performing arts institute – with CLAV continuing to be the Vocal Department.
