Vocal Coach: Deirdre Lobo – Artistic Director, OVIMA Global (USA)
Acting / Movement Coach & Director: Karla Singh (INDIA)
Dance: ICMD – Pia Sutaria, Artistic Director (INDIA)
Additionally students will have the privilege of meeting with Special Guests in the Performing Arts to guide them on careers in the Arts and the various options available, not just Singing, Acting, or Dancing.
This Intensive provides an insight into what it takes to be a Musical Theater Artist on Broadway or the West End focusing and expanding on their vocal performance, acting and dancing craft for stage.
The Intensive has been broken into two age groups:
7-12+ Years – May 30 to June 4, 2022
Final Performance: June 4, 2022
The Intensive is for students ages 7-12 years. In this one week, Musical Theatre intensive students are prepared to perform one Monologue, one Song, and one Dance number from a musical using the Jazz style of dance. It is designed to not just develop and refine a student’s artistic skills and performance but to shape them into artists with confidence expressing themselves completely through the eyes of the lyricist and composer. Students are trained to audition effectively. Students leave the program with one Monologue, one Song, and one Dance Style for an audition, and perform all three on the last day for family and friends in the Showcase Performance on June 4 in Audition Style for our distinguished faculty. Students between the ages of 7-12 years with some amount of dance and singing experience are encouraged to apply.
13+ Years – May 30 to June 11, 2022
13+ Age Group Final Performance: June 11, 2022
The Intensive will be for students ages 13+ years. This two week Intensive offers the talented young singer-actor-dancer the opportunity to sharpen his / her skills and challenge their abilities as they work with our acclaimed faculty in a rigorous training in jazz / theater dance and tap. Additionally students will have classes in voice and acting to build them up as triple-threat performers. They will come out of this two-week intensive period increasing their technical abilities in jazz / theater dance and tap, improve their skills in vocal ensemble, and solo work, and have greater confidence in the understanding of acting skills, and how they apply to “acting the song, dialogue, or a scene from a play, or a from a musical.” Students between the ages of 13+ years with some amount of dance and singing experience are encouraged to apply.
Our classes will begin each day where students will explore skills in strengthening their individual vocal instrument, and utilize these techniques into song. Singing and Acting, usually studied separately, are combined and sort of overlap in this intensive. We will make use of simple, but challenging vocal exercises designed to get rid of physical tensions produced while singing, making singing effortless. Students learn to apply with passion and clarity those techniques into truthful story-telling, improvisation, and discovering the individual human characteristics embedded in song lyrics. Students learn to do a beautiful Showcase performance while staying fully engaged, at the moment at the end of the two weeks for family and friends .
