Speech of Arts | Intermediate Level

Speak with the correct usage of breath, vowels, etc., to project your voice, and be heard by the last person in the room. Technique which will not only help you speak clearly, but speak with finesse, and confidence.

Overview

 Learn to speak extemporaneously. Poems, speeches, etc. are assigned to students and must be memorized. Students will get to perform at the end of the end of the Session. Students are encouraged to sign up for the entire Session to see the difference. Students must bring a notebook, pencil and eraser. The students do warm-up, improvisation, and characterization exercises. In a session, students are provided with at least 3 selections that they must work on in the session. Speech Repertoire at Intermediate level is Story.

At the end of the session students do a graded performance. At the end of the year, students receive a Certificate of Achievement for the year if they have completed the Beginner Level requirements and are ready for the Elementary level.

Students also receive a Progress Report at the end of each session indicating the progress they have made from the beginning to the end of the session with respect to technique, performance, class participation, practice, and attendance.

Prerequisites

Students who are 7 yrs and up are able to register for this Intermediate level class. Students should have finished the Elementary level in order to register for the Intermediate level. Classes are divided into batches according to age groups: 7-11 Years / 12-17 Years / 18+ Years

Classes are specially designed for students to learn the foremost elements of acting taking their acting to the next level. A student’s interest in drama and acting, and their eagerness to discover and explore their voices and themselves, are some of the prerequisites. Additionally, students should have an open mind to learning and be ready to send in practice videos of their work during the week.

Attendance
If a student wants to be successful, then he/she must attend their classes regularly as participation and practice are two major components for success. Students / parents are required to notify OVIMA Global and the instructor in advance of any absences. Students are NOT PERMITTED to miss more than ONE class in the Session. If a student is missing a class the OVIMA office must be informed 24 hours in advance. There are NO MAKE-UP Classes. Students are sent the class video for review. They must send a practice video of what they would have presented in class for feedback from the teacher.

Additionally all students must take advantage of the various Performance opportunities offered at OVIMA Global and must participate in the Jam Sessions, Seasonal Concerts, Seminars, and Masterclasses – all designed to Build Confidence.

Equipment
– Laptop / Desktop preferably NOT ipad, tablet, phone
– Good Broadband Connection
– Have the Zoom app downloaded to their computer
– Microphone, Headphones, Amp.
– Bluetooth speaker or / and additional device to play a track on

Practice
Students MUST put in at least 30 mins of practice daily to see the difference from one week to the next. Additionally they are required to send in Practice Videos on the WhatSapp Group Chats so that instructors are able to guide them and constantly monitor their progress in as well as out of the classroom.

– Students MUST bring all materials, books to class.
– Students are responsible for buying their own books suggested by the teacher.

Objectives

1. For students to have some understanding of at least 1-2 areas of speech arts technique per session.
2. To learn ultimately speech arts technique to move, speak, create, and think naturally..
3. To introduce and expose students to various areas of creativity and some basic speaking skills for stage.
4. To make sure students are prepared to perform from memory, and in full performance mode, 1-2 selections they have worked on in their end of session performance.
5. To learn by watching, listening and participating.

Performance Platforms

At the end of the Intermediate session, students must perform at least 1-2 speech pieces at the culminating performance. All speech pieces are to be performed from memory, in costume and with minimum props. Students must perform with expression, connecting with the audience. Parents, family and friends are welcome for all performances. Peformances are graded.

Students are additionally provided other platforms to perform such as Jam Sessions; Seasonal Concerts; and Performance Seminars in promoting OVIMA Global’s constant effort to develop CONFIDENCE & SELF-EXPRESSION and overall performance in students.
