Overview

Beginner Drama For Fun helps the student gain tools for success. Students learn to act and perform with the correct usage of breath, vowels and enunciation. Students learn techniques which help them speak with clarity, focus, finesse, and elegance. During this course, they work on elements like creative thinking, thinking out of the box, attention to detail and minor performance like poems or very easy first monologues. Each of these activities help students gain poise, self-confidence and creativity. Students do warm-ups, improvisation, and exercises to help their creativity and eventually a basic understanding of the written word.

The course is for students ages 7 years and up who want to try out Drama and see if they would like to take it further, and build on their confidence level. This course teaches students the basics of acting, and at the same time provides students a platform to explore and discover themselves in a Fun way. Students stay at the Beginner level until such time that they have completed the level requirements and are ready for Drama For Fun Elementary level.

At the end of the session students do a graded performance. At the end of the year, students receive a Certificate of Achievement for the year if they have completed the Beginner Level requirements and are ready for the Elementary level.

Students also receive a Progress Report at the end of each session indicating the progress they have made from the beginning to the end of the session with respect to technique, performance, class participation, practice, and attendance.

Prerequisites

  • No previous experience is needed.

  • Students who are 7 yrs and up are able to register for this Beginner level class.

  • Classes are divided into batches according to age groups: 7-11, 12-17  & 18+ years

  • The classes are specially designed for students to learn the foremost elements of acting taking their acting to the next level.

  • A student’s interest in drama and acting, and their eagerness to discover and explore their voices and themselves.

  • Additionally, students should have an open mind to learning and be ready to send in practice videos of their work during the week.

Objectives

  • For students to have some understanding of at least 1-2 areas of drama technique per session.

  • To learn ultimately drama technique to move, act create and think naturally.

  • To introduce and expose students to various areas of creativity and some basic acting for stage.

  • To make sure students are prepared to perform from memory, and in full performance mode, 1-2 drama or poetry selections they have worked on in their end of session performance.

  • To learn by watching, listening and participating.

Performance Platforms

At the end of the Beginner session, students must perform at least 1 drama piece at the culminating performance. All drama pieces are to be performed from memory, in costume and with minimum props, or in concert attire. Students must perform with expression, connecting with the audience. Parents, family and friends are welcome for all performances. Peformances are graded.

Students are additionally provided other platforms to perform such as Jam Sessions; Seasonal Concerts; and Performance Seminars in promoting OVIMA Global’s constant effort to develop CONFIDENCE & SELF-EXPRESSION and overall performance in students.

OVIMA Global provides a FREE PRACTICE CLASS once a week where students are able to come together to practice their songs. In the 12-17 and 18+ age groups, one student is chosen each week to facilitate the practice. In the 7-11 age groups junior teachers or student volunteers from the 12-17 or 18+ age groups can facilitate the practice.

Students facilitating classes are able to earn SERVICE POINTS for their schools, and receive a CERTIFICATE OF SERVICE from OVIMA Global. All practice sessions are recorded.

Guidelines

Equipment

  • Electronic Tanpura for the whole class
  • Laptop / Desktop preferably NOT ipad, tablet, phone
  • Good Broadband Connection
  • Have the Zoom app downloaded to their computer
  • Microphone, Headphones, Amp.
  • Bluetooth speaker or / and additional device to play a track on

Attendance

  • If a student wants to be successful, then he/she must attend their classes regularly as participation and practice are two major components for success. Students / parents are required to notify OVIMA Global and the instructor in advance of any absences.
  • For Sing for Fun Classes there is just one assigned day each month in the Session for Make Up Classes.
  • Students are NOT PERMITTED to miss more than ONE class in the Session.
  • If a student is missing a class the OVIMA office must be informed 24 hours in advance.

Practice

  • Students MUST put in at least 30 mins of practice daily to see the difference from one week to the next.
  • Additionally they are required to send in Practice Videos on the WhatSapp Group Chats so that instructors are able to guide them and constantly monitor their progress in as well as out of the classroom.

Materials

  • Students MUST bring all materials, books to class.
  • Students are responsible for buying their own books suggested by the teacher.
