Play for Fun (Violin)
In Play for Fun-Western & Indian Music, Students learn technique to play effortlessly, any genre of instrumental music.
About the Course
These Fun One-on-One Violin classes are for students who just want to play an instrument and have Fun! OVIMA works with its students in a holistic way developing the individual, and not just the students, artistic and musical skills. These Classes are currently held once a week for 30 / 60 minutes. OVIMA suggests that beginner and younger students register for 30 minute classes and advanced or older students could register for 60 minutes.
The method used in this process is closely related to imitation as this is one of our primary ways of learning from a very young age. There will be games involved which have a purpose to develop a specific skill in musicality and rhythm. This may or may not involve the instrument. Each class will focus on one skill of the foundation process. This is because the founding bricks are interdependent. My goal here is to lay one strong foundation upon which the next brick of skill will be laid on. Later, when the foundation bricks are laid, more than one skill may be introduced in one class. The foundation process is usually a long one, but this has shown to quicken the learning process for the future.
Areas of Technique
Quarter 1: Learning Pizzicato and Posture
Quarter 2: Finger placement and bowing on the string
Quarter 3: Bow strokes and first position
Quarter 4: Intonation and phrasing
The students will do warm-up exercises and scales pertaining to that area of technique. In a 10-class period, students must bring in at least 3 songs, that they would like to work on from a specified genre for the quarter. Songs are to be submitted to the office right after they Register for Classes. For the age group 7-11 years, instructors will suggest songs. If the song a student brings in is difficult, the teacher will be able to recommend something else, or the student could bring in something else as well.
