Students work on their acting skills through various exercises, monologues, duologues, poems, scene study, etc. and work on play and character analysis.
About the Course
Whether you are concentrating on Acting or Public Speaking, this class will help you gain the tools for success. Speak and perform with the correct usage of breath, vowels and enunciation. Learn techniques which will help you speak with clarity, focus, finesse, and elegance. During this 12 week course, we will work on elements of speech, and performance that will help you gain poise and self confidence. Students will also work on their acting skills through various exercises, monologues, dialogues, prose, poems, scene study and cold readings. The students will do warm-up, improvisation, and exercises to help their understanding of the written word. Classes are at the Beginner-Intermediate-Advanced levels.
PLEASE NOTE: Students who have not been at the Beginner Level at OVIMA Global, and wishing to be admitted to the Intermediate or Advanced Levels MUST send in a video of them delivering a Monologue, Poem, and an original Speech for assessment even if they have received previous training elsewhere. We at OVIMA Global believe in challenging our students in taking them to the next level.
In each quarter, students work on certain areas of Drama Studies:
- Quarter 1: Improvisation, Personal Anecdotes, Monologues, and Delivery Practice
- Quarter 2: Monologues, Structure and Delivery Practice
- Quarter 3: Themed Monologues, Poetry, Speech Writing, Dialogues, and Delivery Practice
- Quarter 4: Prose, Scenes, Cold Readings, Commercial Auditions, Topic Selection, Structure and Delivery Practice

Drama Repertoire
- Quarter 1: Monologue – Contemporary Period

- Quarter 4: Scene – Themed and Suggested by the Instructor
Students will get to perform at the end of the 12 weeks individually and/or in ensemble perform 2 or all of the pieces that they have worked on during the quarter from memory in an in-class performance or recital. Additionally, students receive a Progress Report at the end of each Quarter where they are graded on an average. Students are additionally provided other platforms to perform. OVIMA Global has numerous performing platforms it has made available to students to promote our constant effort in developing CONFIDENCE & SELF-EXPRESSION in students such as our Jam sessions, and Seasonal Concerts. Students are encouraged to sign up for at least 12 weeks to see the difference. Students must bring a notebook, pencil and eraser.
PERFORMING OPPORTUNITIES
In-class Performances (Non-Performance Quarter):
The 1st and 3rd Quarters are Non-Performance Quarters (Students perform in an In-Class Performance-Not Open to Parents and Public, ONLY to students).
Quarterly Jam Sessions
This is a platform made available for students to come together with whatever they want to sing or perform. They do not have to memorize their music for these Jam Sessions. Performance in these Jam Sessions is NOT MANDATORY but students are encouraged to participate.
Recital Performance (Performance Quarter):
The 2nd and 4th Quarters are Performance Quarters (Students perform in a Recital Performance – Open to Parents and Public).
Quarterly Seasonal Concerts
Students would prepare a song or piece per the Seasonal Theme Bollywood Style, and would have the opportunity of working with the instructor just once. This means that the student MUST come prepared knowing the tune of the song and lyrics from memory or knowing the piece completely in the case of instrumentalists. This again is NOT MANDATORY, but students are encouraged to participate.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
Attendance:
If a student wants to be successful, then he/she must attend their classes regularly as participation and practice are two major components for success. Students / parents are required to notify OVIMA Global and the instructor in advance of any absences. For Drama & Speech Arts Classes there is just one day in the Quarter assigned for Make Up Classes. Students are NOT PERMITTED to miss more than ONE class in the Quarter. If a student is missing a class the OVIMA office must be informed 24 hours in advance.
Equipments needed:
- Laptop / Desktop preferably NOT ipad, tablet, phone
- Good Broadband Connection
- Have the Zoom app downloaded to their computer
- Microphone, Headphones, Amp.
- Bluetooth speaker or / and additional device to play a track on
Practice:
Students MUST put in at least 30 mins of practice daily to see the difference from one week to the next. Additionally they are required to send in Practice Videos on the WhatSapp Group Chats so that instructors are able to guide them and constantly monitor their progress in as well as out of the classroom. All students must fill out the Practice Google Sheet shared with all students at the beginning of the quarter. Additionally, all students must fill out their Goals Sheet also shared with them at the beginning of the Quarter.
Materials:
- Students MUST bring all materials, books to class.
- Students are responsible for buying their own books suggested by the teacher.
